The elements in this painting I can see is colour, line, shape and texture. The principals of design I see are a lot of contrast in his artwork using bright colours making his work very lively also having focal points like the opera house and Harbor Bridge give the painting unity. This artwork is 70cm x 80cm and is an oil, crayon and ink on paper.

I can see buildings, a river that is colourful because the buildings lights are reflecting on the river, Sydney Harbour Bridge, colourful fireworks, a boat and a moon. The artwork ‘Sydney Night’ by artist Ken done is about the artist trying to say that Sydney is a very vibrant place and it looks like a celebration.

The main idea of the artwork is that Sydney is a very happy place to be. Sydney celebrates New Year’s by lighting up the night at Sydney Opera house and Sydney harbour Bridge. The fireworks are a symbol of celebration also all the bright and happy colours.

I love this artwork, I think it is very bright and colourful. I can see movement through the water. The colours are reflecting on the buildings which creates rhythm. I think this is an important artwork to the people celebrating New Year’s. People will love seeing this artwork in a museum. They will be the same as me, thinking that the artwork is very vibrant and colourful.

The artwork Sydney night 1984 drawled by ken done is a spectacular piece of art. The bright colours on a black background make the colours stand out. In Sydney night 1984 is the Sydney harbor during a celebration which is shown by the fireworks and bright colours the celebration is most likely to be the New Year’s Eve celebration.

Sydney night 1984 has pink, purple, black, yellow, white, red, green and blue. The artwork has boats, cruise liners, sky scrapers, firework, clouds, Sydney Harbor Bridge, water, stars and the Sydney opera house. Most of the drawing is pretty busy except for the sky which is full of stars, clouds and the moon. Sydney night 1984 is unique because the waters darker then the boat, in most drawings and paintings the boat is lighter than the water. I can see symmetry in the sky scrapers, the windows are symmetrical and they are also very bright and help with the theme of a celebration.

This piece is unique because of the border this is uncommon in most paintings I’ve seen the border also has something to do with the drawing having stars and confetti referring to the celebration in the drawing. Sydney night 1984 is made from Oil crayon and ink on paper it is 70x80 cm. There is balance between the boats and little boats. Think this is fantastic artwork and that it definitely belongs in museum.

Judy Watson Napangardi, born 1925 in Yarungkanji at Mt Doreen Station, (North West of Alice Springs) in an expanse of the Yuendumu Community in Central Australia. Judy was taught the art of painting by her elder sister, Maggie Napangardi Watson.

The artwork Mina Mina Dreaming by artist Judy Watson Napangardi looks like a large painting with lots of bright vibrant colours such as blue, orange, pink, red, purple and green, with dimensions of 513 x 640cm. This is an Indigenous piece of artwork. The medium is acrylic on linen canvas and has a horizontal axis. Different shapes have been used throughout the art work and different textures and styles of the brush strokes. Some of the shape styles that are used are circles, diamonds and very long rectangles with round tips, it also has different coloured lines around the outside of the shapes and the perimeter of the artwork.

She uses the whole canvas and has a lot of detail. The artwork has a horizontal axis. The tone of the artwork is quite dahl but has some nice bright vibrant colours through it.

The artwork “Mina Mina Dreaming” by artist Judy Watson Napangardi is about the Creation Time and the country associated with this painting, (west of Yuendumu). The painting tells the story of a group of women, all ages, who travelled the country performing sacred ceremonies and gathering food as they went about their travels.

The main idea of the artwork “Mina Mina Dreaming” is that it’s significant to Napangardi/Napanangka women and Japangardi/Japanangka men and is represented through the materials of acrylic paints, linen canvas and much more, meaning that Judy Watson Napangardi is an amazing indigenous artist with great art skills and techniques that younger indigenous children can learn from and look up to.

The artwork ‘Australian Gum Blossom’ by Margaret Preston is a painting and it’s made of oil on canvas. Margaret was known during the 1920s to the 1940s for her modernist works as a painter and print maker and for introducing aboriginal motifs into contemporary art. These paintings dimensions are 55.5 x 55.5. Circle shapes represent the flowers, there’s a small table holding the pot of flowers. The texture looks bumpy as if the paint was slogged on and it dried in a bumpy way.

The colors used in this artwork were red, white, pink, green, grey, black, purple, brown and orange. The grey color was used for the table, the black for the pot of flowers. Green was used for the leaves and different color flowers.

In this amazing artwork, the first thing you notice when you look at the painting is mostly the flowers and the table. You notice the detail a bit later. For example, the brown stems of the flowers are seen when you look closer at the picture.

The materials show the idea (oil on canvas would be for used for the flowers because in real life, they seem to look a bit like it) I think that the artist thought the flowers looked like a good thing to paint so she picked them and arranged them so it would make a great picture. And there isn’t really anything in the artwork that would be a symbol or meaning other than that.

I this art because it’s pretty, captivating and looks great the way it’s arranged. I would say it’s important because these flowers are quite beautiful and would lighten someone’s day. This brilliant artwork could be put in a museum because it’s worth it and it’s painted so well with great detail.  The measurements suit the painting (55.5x55.5)

Ken Done is an Australian artist, he comes from Sydney born and bred. He was born 29^th June 1943. His artwork ‘Sydney Night’ was created in 1984. It is an outlook from his studio/office window. This artwork measures 70x80cm and is oil, crayon and ink on paper.

Sydney Night was painted at night through Ken’s office window, he wanted to show us what he sees at night through his window. There are many elements in this in this painting, there are stars, squiggles, circles and lines. The painting is very packed and filled with imagination it has so many random lines and shapes that make up an amazing painting. It has a horizontal axis and there is no symmetry or repetition in this piece of art. In the painting there are heaps of neon colors, boats, buildings and stars. This painting is very unique because there is so much color and vibrancy. The main idea of Sydney Night was to show people that haven’t seen Sydney, the better side of Sydney. I think Ken Done did very well in representing what Sydney looks like at night.

I like this artwork because it is very bright and I love colors. I also like it because I’m a city girl. It is an important artwork because it is an outlook of one of the most well-known cities in Australia. It is a gorgeous painting, I would definitely put it in a museum. If I were to put this on an outfit I would put it on a cute puffed up party dress because it would be a perfect party dress because of its black background and bright colors and pictures on top. I would only make one change to this artwork… I would add glitter because glitter makes everything better and I think it would give a great effect because of the dark background.

Peter Booth was born on the 2 November 1940 in Sheffield, England. He and his family came to Australia in 1958, where he worked as a labourer for several years before attending the National Gallery School in Melbourne.

 ‘Painting’ by Peter Booth was painted in 1977 in Melbourne, NSW. It was accepted into The National Gallery of Victorian. The dimensions to it are 182.5 x 304cm (horizontal) it is also an oil on canvas picture. This artwork has caught the attention of many so it is time for the world to get a better understanding of what it is about.

Since this artwork uses oil paints it gives it lots of different colours which gives it emotion and expression. This picture give out a sort of dark meaning, for example the earth is black with all sorts of different coloured smudges, and also there is no light colours in the background except for a white bull-terrier dog behind a whited faced man in a large coat with red eyes. All the features of the picture fit in very well with each other.

Many colours have been used in the painting, but some of them are hard to see because they are used is small proportion compared to the brown and black and sometimes red. But since there are so many splotches it makes the colours visible.

This painting represents Peter Booth’s belief that part and the whole are the same and cannot be changed ever.

There are many parts of this painting that Peter Booth included to have a meaning such as: the dog, which in a way is the only thing that is fully white which could mean that life, and the man in the trench coat can be seem as artist-everyman-prophet in a journey into an apocalyptic world as a consequence of violence and greed. The other objects are representing fragments of nature.

Personal Opinion:

I don’t really like this artwork, even though it has a lot of good colours there is something depressing about it.

I do think that it is a good artwork since it has heaps of colours.

I don’t reckon this is an important artwork, I think it just shows a message/meaning.

This artwork to me is good enough to put in a museum, and it has into: The National Gallery of Victorian.

I have learnt that artwork does not need to be in certain style to express happy, sad, ect meanings.

Magenta Sea Garden by Ken Done is an oil on linen based artwork and has the colours light green, dark purple, light purple, yellow, dark blue, light pink, pink, purple, aqua, turquoise, black, orange, brown, grey, white, light blue and dark red. The theme of this artwork is under the sea but in colourful pastel colours. Magenta Sea Garden has pastel colours and is a painting of the ocean. The painting is vertical, and features shells, coral, fish and clams and is which is 157x122cm long.

The distinctive features of Magenta Sea Garden by Ken Done are shown by the bright colours of the coral and the fish are in a dark blue colour which makes them stand out. The shapes used in this artwork are rectangles, ovals, triangles, squares and prisms. In this artwork I don’t think that there are any hidden symbols in it or any other secret representations.

I like this artwork because it is so unique and has so many bright colours in it. This artwork is important because it makes people more aware of looking after the ocean and not polluting it. Magenta Sea Garden is good enough to be in a museum because it looks amazing. This artwork means that we should not pollute the ocean and not make the animals endangered.
