Wearable Art Assignment – Ken Done Sydney Night
Ken Done is an Australian artist, he comes from Sydney born and bred. He
was born 29th June 1943. His artwork ‘Sydney Night’ was created in
1984. It is an outlook from his studio/office window. This artwork measures
70x80cm and is oil, crayon and ink on paper.
Sydney Night was painted at night through Ken’s office window, he wanted
to show us what he sees at night through his window. There are many elements in
this in this painting, there are stars, squiggles, circles and lines. The
painting is very packed and filled with imagination it has so many random lines
and shapes that make up an amazing painting. It has a horizontal axis and there
is no symmetry or repetition in this piece of art. In the painting there are
heaps of neon colors, boats, buildings and stars. This painting is very unique
because there is so much color and vibrancy. The main idea of Sydney Night was
to show people that haven’t seen Sydney, the better side of Sydney. I think Ken
Done did very well in representing what Sydney looks like at night.
