Australian Gum Blossom Sophie Frasle

Australian Gum Blossom

The painting Australian gum Blossom was painted by Margaret Preston. She was an Australian artist, born in 1875 in Port Adelaide her first passion for painting started when she was twelve and she continued this passion throughout her life. She went on to study at National Gallery of Victoria Art school for five years. In 1920 she became one of Australias leading modernist artists. She lived in the bush for most of the 1930s and found a lot of inspiration for her landscape paintings with her surroundings, and that is where she got her inspiration for her aboriginal paintings too. She died on the 28th of May 1963.

Most of her paintings are based on flowers and nature. A lot of her paintings have something Australian in them and I think she did this because she wanted to show people how beautiful Australia is. The painting Australian Gum Blossom is a bunch of Australian native flowers and plants in a large black pot. There are many different colours and textures, the flowers are pink, red, white and orange. The Australian native plant in this photo is the eucalyptus leaves that are scattered in the pot. The painting is made on oil on canvas and the texture is almost like a ruff table.  The artwork also includes shadowing from the pot so this hows that there is a light coming through somewhere, this leaves the viewer wondering what is beyond this painting. The repetition used in this artwork are the flowers that are the main object.

Throughout Margaret Preston's collection her paintings are Australian influenced, including The Sydney Bridge (1957), aboriginal designs and black and white paintings. This Artwork is currently in the Art Gallery of NSW, and I think that this painting reflects on Margaret Preston and her life.

Peter Booth Painting 1968 Noah Van Der Stelt

Peter Booth Painting 1968
Welcome, today we will blog about Peter Booth’s famous painting.
Art Work: Painting 1968
Peter booth is an Australia figurative and surrealist painter he has painted many famous paintings such as painting 1968 it has a midnight shade with bluish tints as well as a fiery red sun and city line it features various items and creatures such as a dog, himself, a city, bushes and reddish dirt. The reddish sun and greys give the painting a heavy finish. The Artwork Painting 1968 by Peter Booth is about a lonely man walking down a path with his dog under the sunset it is definitely a painting to be seen.
The main idea of the Artwork “Painting 1968” is a peaceful walk through bush land and is represented through the materials of Dark colours and outlines giving it a meaning of peace and the falling of night time. It brings me to a standstill to see this painting and its unique dark colours and patterns. The theme of this artwork is walking with this lonely man with his dog and seeing the sun go down. I think the artist created this painting because he was walking one time with his dog and he saw this magical moment that he just had to captcha. I think that some things in the artwork represent a certain thing like the dog it’s his friend or his loyal companion. The city symbolizes his city life or a noisy traffic ridden mind and the country side is his peace his one place of freedom.
In all I like Peter Booths’ painting as it brings great meaning to me like where I find my peace and freedom. In result this painting should be put into a museum.
Please give your opinion down below I would be greatly appreciated.

Nasturtiums blog, Josh Richards

Nasturtiums, 2002 by Cressida Campbell

When one thinks imagines the concept of art, they often picture extravagant and revolutionary artworks that inspire new styles, ideas and creations. Although, not all art must be complex, as sometimes true creativity and innovations stems from simplicity. This is most definitely the case with the Still Life piece, Nasturtiums, by Australian-born artist, Cressida Campbell, which captures the subtle beauty of the bright and vibrant flowers.

Nasturtiums is a Still Life colour woodblock painting, created in 2002. It is 55.4 centimetres in height and 60 centimetres wide and is set in vertical axis.  After spending some time in Japan, studying at the Yoshida Hanga Academy in Tokyo, Cressida was inspired to integrate many Japanese techniques into her artwork, including colour woodblock painting, which is a key feature in many of her pieces.

The artworks consists of many different elements, such as the use of balance, texture and a clever palette of colours. This painting depicts three decorative white and grey china bowls, containing various vibrant flora, upon a dark blue tablecloth. An expansive range of colours have been implemented in this piece, including dark and navy blue, earthy maroon trimmed with a darkish gold, and light jade green used in the tablecloth, various mixes of bright whites and yellows, oranges, dark reds and radiant whites used in the vibrant flower petals, combined with multiple shades of light and dark greens used in the flower stems and leaves and clay-like greys and muted dark whites used in the detailed china bowls. Many of the shapes in this piece are made with fine detailed line and are spread quite evenly across the space, creating a wonderful balance between the different elements. Due to the artwork being created upon wood, the piece has a wonderful rough texture, which adds character and personality into this simple piece.

Behind every painting there is a message, whether it is hidden through symbolism or in clear view, the meaning is the core basis of the artwork. Nasturtiums is a painting showcasing various Nasturtium (Tropaeolum) flowers contained in simple china bowls. At first glance, one may think this painting may not have an underlying message, but in fact, this subtle piece may have various meanings. This painting showcases the beauty and character of the flowers. It is very honest and does not exaggerate details, but still remains an attractive painting. This painting demonstrates the message of one staying true to themselves, as real beauty lies in one’s character. It teaches us to be honest and true to ourselves in the midst of adversity. This piece demonstrates that sometimes simplicity, can be more expressive and eye-catching than the complex and extravagant.

In conclusion, Nasturtiums is a wonderfully made painting and deserves to be hung on the walls of various building across the world. Even though, the artwork may not be a revolutionary contributor to the history of the Still Art genre, it is of importance to Australian art. All credit goes to Cressida Campbell for the stunning piece she has created.

Sydney Night by Ken done - Hayley Phelan

Wearable art assignment- ‘Sydney night ‘by Ken done

The elements in this painting I can see is colour, line, shape and texture. The principals of design I see are a lot of contrast in his artwork using bright colours making his work very lively also having focal points like the opera house and Harbor Bridge give the painting unity. This artwork is 70cm x 80cm and is an oil, crayon and ink on paper.

I can see buildings, a river that is colourful because the buildings lights are reflecting on the river, Sydney Harbour Bridge, colourful fireworks, a boat and a moon. The artwork ‘Sydney Night’ by artist Ken done is about the artist trying to say that Sydney is a very vibrant place and it looks like a celebration.

The main idea of the artwork is that Sydney is a very happy place to be. Sydney celebrates New Year’s by lighting up the night at Sydney Opera house and Sydney harbour Bridge. The fireworks are a symbol of celebration also all the bright and happy colours.

I love this artwork, I think it is very bright and colourful. I can see movement through the water. The colours are reflecting on the buildings which creates rhythm. I think this is an important artwork to the people celebrating New Year’s. People will love seeing this artwork in a museum. They will be the same as me, thinking that the artwork is very vibrant and colourful.

Sydney Night 1984: Danielle Mckone

Sydney night 1984
The artwork Sydney night 1984 drawled by ken done is a spectacular piece of art. The bright colours on a black background make the colours stand out. In Sydney night 1984 is the Sydney harbor during a celebration which is shown by the fireworks and bright colours the celebration is most likely to be the New Year’s Eve celebration.
Sydney night 1984 has pink, purple, black, yellow, white, red, green and blue. The artwork has boats, cruise liners, sky scrapers, firework, clouds, Sydney Harbor Bridge, water, stars and the Sydney opera house. Most of the drawing is pretty busy except for the sky which is full of stars, clouds and the moon. Sydney night 1984 is unique because the waters darker then the boat, in most drawings and paintings the boat is lighter than the water. I can see symmetry in the sky scrapers, the windows are symmetrical and they are also very bright and help with the theme of a celebration.

This piece is unique because of the border this is uncommon in most paintings I’ve seen the border also has something to do with the drawing having stars and confetti referring to the celebration in the drawing. Sydney night 1984 is made from Oil crayon and ink on paper it is 70x80 cm. There is balance between the boats and little boats. Think this is fantastic artwork and that it definitely belongs in museum.

Mina Mina Dreaming by Georgia

Judy Watson Napangardi
Mina Mina dreaming (Mina Mina Jukurrpa)
Judy Watson Napangardi, born 1925 in Yarungkanji at Mt Doreen Station, (North West of Alice Springs) in an expanse of the Yuendumu Community in Central Australia. Judy was taught the art of painting by her elder sister, Maggie Napangardi Watson.
The artwork Mina Mina Dreaming by artist Judy Watson Napangardi looks like a large painting with lots of bright vibrant colours such as blue, orange, pink, red, purple and green, with dimensions of 513 x 640cm. This is an Indigenous piece of artwork. The medium is acrylic on linen canvas and has a horizontal axis. Different shapes have been used throughout the art work and different textures and styles of the brush strokes. Some of the shape styles that are used are circles, diamonds and very long rectangles with round tips, it also has different coloured lines around the outside of the shapes and the perimeter of the artwork.
She uses the whole canvas and has a lot of detail. The artwork has a horizontal axis. The tone of the artwork is quite dahl but has some nice bright vibrant colours through it.
The artwork “Mina Mina Dreaming” by artist Judy Watson Napangardi is about the Creation Time and the country associated with this painting, (west of Yuendumu). The painting tells the story of a group of women, all ages, who travelled the country performing sacred ceremonies and gathering food as they went about their travels.
The main idea of the artwork “Mina Mina Dreaming” is that it’s significant to Napangardi/Napanangka women and Japangardi/Japanangka men and is represented through the materials of acrylic paints, linen canvas and much more, meaning that Judy Watson Napangardi is an amazing indigenous artist with great art skills and techniques that younger indigenous children can learn from and look up to.
